The PERFECT cap for used carts?

Post  Viv Savage on Wed Nov 18, 2009 4:52 pm

Hi Everyone! I don't know if I'm the first to find these or not (forgive me if this is old news), but I think I found the perfect stopper for used Volcano/Blu carts!

I'm a Volcano owner and still a relative newbie (vaping 2 months), as I'm still going through my pre-filled cartridges. Once I'm done trying the rest of the flavors, though, I will finally be ready to give refilling with juice a try. Since I'm going to have about 100 used cartridges, I definitely wanted to use those rather than buy blanks. I still didn't know how I was going to cap the carts once I refilled them, though, so I went to the hardware store to peruse the aisles for solutions and I think I found the perfect stopper!

They are Raindrip Hole Plugs (used to seal holes in hoses), found in the Gardening section. A 10-pack was a whopping $1.39. They are double-sided and the larger end fits perfectly in a cartridge; you snip off the smaller end and it's a snug cap that fits perfectly in your PCC.

Check it out:

Sweet! I bought mine at my local OSH, but I found them online, too. Here they are at Amazon:

It'll probably be a several more weeks until I actually use them, so if anyone else tries it in the meantime, please let me know if you have issues with leaking or anything. But I gotta say, it looks like a perfect fit to me! cheers

I just got a pack of these from Amazon.com. The packaging has changed and they come 20 to a pack for under $2 so I figured why not. I haven't put these on any filled carts but I wanted to share a picture of how these plugs compare to a Volcano/Blu atty.
Sorry for the blurry pics Embarassed but I lined them up so that they are even at the point where they stop on the outer cart.

It looks like the plug doesn't quite reach the inner cart. That could be a problem.

Hmmm... so I guess you're saying that even if it successfully seals the outer cart, if it doesn't reach the inner cart, the juice will leak out of the inner cart and it will be a mess when you got to unplug and use one? Please report back and let us know once you try it. I haven't even tried using them yet as I still have a lot of pre-filled carts, as I'm only dipping at home now.

Well, you had me concerned, so I surveyed some fellow Volcano owners to whom I had also suggested these plugs, and they have had nothing but success with them:

Volcano Owner #1:
I purchased some of them and they have performed very well for me. I use them in 3-6 carts per day between myself and the lady. I have not run across any spillage problem as of yet.

Excellent find!

Volcano Owner #2:
For normal use, I have not ever had a leakage problem. That person that said they don't reach the inner cart maybe has problems filling cartridges to the right amount, because juice will not leak out of the wicking material unless it's too full or if it's a modded cartridge, modded poorly.

I'm still using these plugs on all of my cartridges, and have never had a leaking problem.

These are a great find, and I will continue to use them as I have put them through every test I could think of and they keep juice inside, and they keep the inner cart juicy. Which is the whole point.

They're working perfectly, still.

So, you should be good to go, muninn! If you do run into a problem with juice leaking out of the inner cart, you should just try using less juice (as Volcano Owner #2 said).

Let me know how it goes!

Before I got these I did fill up a few and just leave them in the PCC for a while... I didn't plug them but I didn't over-fill them either and they didn't leak. I'm not sure we even need a plug if we don't over-fill them. Unless maybe some cart mods are more prone to leakage. Not sure if the PTB mod is like that as I haven't done it yet but if it gives up the juice better than it may need a plug.
