Ecig Newb - Of course!

Post  SapphiraLaval on Wed Feb 03, 2010 2:42 pm

Goood afternoon!

New to this whole community of 'vapers'.
Started looking into the e-cig as of a few weeks ago. Made the commitment to purchase the blu (white) starter kit two days ago after some research. Turns out, the white is on backorder contrary to what the website says. Cancelled the inital order of the white, made a new order this morning for the black starter kit.

Meanwhile, I stopped into a smoke shop here in Tallahassee, FL and purchased a 1 time use disposable (20 bucks for ONE!?!?!?!). Realized I got a little gypped on that deal, but it was extremely worth it. To know A) never do that again and B) that I really did gain from it. Experience in what an e-cig was. Checking out the flavor of what brand it was.. (Beyond Nova) If this disposable is anything like the Blu, I am sure to be pleased.

However, the disposable just died (battery ran out I'm assuming). Any hints tips tricks on cracking one of these open to reuse temporarily? I really don't feel like investing in ANOTHER e-cig right this moment. So many decent reviews on the blu as a starter were great.

Or, anyone in Tallahassee, FL know where to BUY a blu other than online? I could easily gift the one I ordered and just keep one I get 'today'. I am extremely impatient. (Probably why I smoke in the first place).

Thanks for the advice Smile

Hi Sapphira. Welcome to the forum. You should be pleased with your blu when you get it.Read up on some of the tips here, like getting the foil cap off all the way, and refilling your carts instead of buying new ones. I have had four other e-cigs, some of the one reccommended by "experts" and I like my blu the best.

Right now, because blu's delivery times is so slow, I reccommend you go to www.volcanoecigs.com and buy the following - one battery, one atomizer, a USB charger, and a couple packs of carts. Don't forget to use the discount code "blucigforum" for 10% off.

Joe ships fast, so you will have your order in no time, and it is the exact same thing as the blu, so you will have an extra batt, atty, and charger - which always comes in handy.

Shitake mushrooms! There's a lot of info on this site.
Okay, I take it that the Volcano products are compatible with the blu? I don't mind being prepared at all. Just need to be sure. Searching compatibility is like jumping down a rabbit hole of ecig debates that run off tangent a little.

Okay, the questions that I would appreciate a point in the right direction for:
*What carts are compatible?
*Which Atomizers? (I see a ton of people referencing 501, things like this.)
*Which tobacco flavor seems to be truest to tobacco? (Marlboro Lt 100's? Or any Marlboro for that matter, hell, if it tastes like it could be tobacco I don't mind)

Bleah! *flails her arms* Just shoot me a link to where I can find the info if you want to strangle me by now.

I have a knack for mixology for flavoring hard candies (Best flavor I've mixed up - home spun sugar --- smells and tastes like a rich, buttery cream cake), and I've noticed that several places also say you can mix your own 'smoke juice' with LorAnn's.
*Anyone else tried this? I probably have every flavor they make! Usually for making lollipops for my kids though. A dram could be used for what would seem an eternity for mixing up for vaping.

Tobacco taxes have gotten outrageous here in FL. Pushing what used to be the affordable off-brand into "You must make 120K a year" to smoke them.
I tried Chantix to quit. But in all honesty, I ENJOY smoking. I don't enjoy the fact I am probably killing myself with it.

So... think I'll hit post, thank you for the response so far A. Smile

I understand the information overload. There is so much here and on other e-cig sites. It is enough to drive one mad!!

Blu e-cigs are a model L88b, same as Volcano. They are just different colors, so everything is compatable. Yes, you can use different model carts and batteries on it - some work, some don't. Do not drive yourself crazy trying to figure it all out. Just buy everything from either blu or volcano. LOL I like the acronym K.I.S.S. <keep it simple, stupid>

A lot of people, who are much more ambitious that I, like to do "mods" and make different things and invest a lot of time and energy trying to "build a better mosuetrap" They have e-cigs that have so much power, you will blow your head off with the smoke, and batteries that last for a whole day. Me, I am of the philosophy Don't fix it if it ain't broke" Blu and Volcano work well enough right out of the box with the pre filled carts.

Two things you do want to fiddle with for good performance out of them -

1) With the stock carts, when you put them on the attomizer, twist them around a full 360 degrees and then remove. There should be a little bit of foil stuck to the atty - throw it away. If this foil isn't removed, it can block the juice from getting to your atty and you won't get much vapor. You can also use an unbent paperclip to get it off. Push the clip up through the little mouth hole on the cart and the inner cart (the part that holds the juice) will come out. Take the foil off and put the inner cart back in. Use the paperclip to push it down as far as it will go.

2)You can refill the carts that come with the blu or volcano over and over with your own juice. Just take them apart, rinse them very well with hot water, dry, and put back together. You will at some point want to replace the filling in the carts with something better. (Better meaning it will hold the juice so it doesn't leak, but also release the juice at a good rate to vape - called wicking) The best thing to restuff carts with is either blue foam or fluval. They are aquarium filter products available at most pet stores. When you start running low on the carts that come with your starter kit, let me know and I will walk you through how to change the filler. Don't worry about it right this minute.

There are dozens of good e-juice vendors. Some are listed here on blucigforum. My favorite is www.MyFreedomSmokes.com He is a great guy to work with and his juice is very yummy. Another good place is www.StrictlyEjuice.com Thier quality and customer service are good enough, but you won't find better prices - 30ml for $10. Both places have over 100 flavors and have unflavored juice for making your own - called DIY

Many people use LorAnns to flavor their juices. Just get some unflavored juice in the nicotine strength you want and add some flavoring - usually 10-20% of the mix. You can also add some Loranns to a ready made juice to "kick it up a notch" Check out this place www.happyvaper.com He sells incredable flavor concentrates in any flavor you can imagine. With his stuff, you only need one drop of it to a ml of juice.

What is the e-juice that tastes closest to real tobaccoo cigarettes? Nothing is going to be exactly the same, because there is no combustion and paper and 4000+ chemicals involved with e-cigs. My favorite is B&H that you can get from the vendors I mentioned. It tasted exactly like the Misty Light 120s that I smoke. (It doesn't taste anything like Benson and Hedges cigarettes, though LOL) Another favorite is 555, it has a sweet nutty taste to it - good for after dinner. And RY4 is a sweet caramel, vanilla tobacco - you'll either love it or hate it.

Around here, and the internet in general, people are very willing to help (and they have been a great help to me), problem is, if you ask six people a question, you will most likely get half a dozen different answers, and still be confused. Everyone has their own personal prefferences, on e-cig models, mods, juice, vendors, etc. and can be very strong in voicing thier opinions. Don't do what I did. I wanted to buy a blu, but so many people (in that other forum) told me it was junk, don't waist my money, buy a 510 or a 901 or an abc-xyz.... So I didn't buy the blu and tried a whole bunch of different stuff. Five months and several hundred dollars later, I bought a blu on a lark. I am finally happy. I should have bought it first. Like I said earlier K.I.S.S.

So...do I get some of that spun sugar candy for being so helpful? Razz

::boggles:: Wow! Okay, so, I know I mentioned I was impatient. Blu invoiced my order today but I found another local shop that had this thing called a Gamucci. I bought it. I do not love it. This one compared to a disposable (the disposable one I bought), the disposable rocked my socks. Eh hem. I did find that there is a local supplier in town for 'smoke juice' only thing is, no flavors OTHER than menthol and marlboro (yay for me on that!) It does work, however, the battery overheats?! something. Cutting off intermittently. Only the first say three puffs are good then it's pretty much air. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Dripping = A+
Cartridge filling = I made a tiny mess. (Did I mention impatient? Tried to do it in the car on the way to pick up my kids from school) Sure to get better at that.

A,
Of course! Next time I make up some candies, I'll make you a side .5dram and send. See how you like it. I have no way to tell how much would be good for mixing, so I'll say .5 for right now as that's what goes into about forty lolli's I'd imagine it goes a fair ways. LOL (It's my personal fav, and I have mixed A LOT of candy flavorings--- surprisingly enough I still have taste buds).

Thanks for the warm welcome, Nikko!
